Top Superfoods: A List Of The Top Superfoods For Healthy Living

"Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor not a bricklayer."

Possibly one of the lines I loved most from McCoy on the original Star Trek series.

While he was a doctor, or at least played the role of a doctor, I am not. I'm not even close. I see blood and I'm out cold on the floor.

I do however have more than a passing interest for healthy living and decided to compile a list of top superfoods for you to consider adding to your diet.

To find out more about any of these foods visit the websites listed at the bottom of this article. And Bon Appetit.

Acai
Harvested from the jungles of the Amazon.

Aloe Vera
The inner gel of the aloe vera leaf contains around 200 active compounds with over 75 nutrients.

Bee Pollen
Around 40% protein of a highly digestible form.

Blueberries
Rich in amhocyanidins, compounds that help protect the heart, and may inhibit the growth of cancer cells.

Broccoli
Rich in sulforaphane, an antioxidant linked with a reduced risk of a number of cancers, especially lung, stomach, colon and rectal cancers.

Chlorella
60% protein, contains all the B vitamins, vitamins C and E, a wealth of minerals and trace minerals, and a host of phytochemicals.

Chocolate (Cacao)
Pure chocolate is the highest antioxidant food on the planet, exceeding blueberries, grapes and green tea, is exceptionally high in magnesium (great for the heart and nervous system) and contains the beautifying mineral sulphur.

Fish
Rich in omega-3 fatty acids that decrease the risk of heart attack and stroke, and may cut your risk of death from coronary artery disease in half.

Goji
Also known as Wolfberry, the Himalayan Goji Berry has benefited Chinese cultures for thousands of years because of its extensive nutritional benefits.

Greens
Provide many vitamins and minerals that you body needs, including iron, folic acid, & calcium.

Noni
An ancient natural medicinal food with a rich history in Hawaiian and Asian cultures.

Mangosteen
Believed to have originated in the western part of the Malay Archipeligo, Mangosteen contains the powerful Xanthone compound.

Pumpkin
Pumpkin is one of the best sources of carotenoids, antioxidants that reduce the risk of cancer. Pumpkin is rich in disease-preventive beta-carotene.

Quinoa
is an excellent source of vegetarian protein. It is the food responsible for providing the Incas with the energy to run long distances in the Andes mountains.

SeabuckthornGrown primarily in China, Seabuckthorn is best known as nature’s multi-vitamin.

Spinach
Rich in beta-carotene, which may protect against cancer.

Tomatoes
Are loaded with lycopene, an antioxidant that reduces the risk of prostate, breast, lung and other cancers, and has heart-protective effects.

White Tea
Although all teas are healthy and recommended, white tea is the least-known in the US. It is known around the world as a "beauty food" that improves skin tone.

Well there you have it, my compiled list of top superfoods for healthy living. Is this an all inclusive list? Hardly. Check out more information from any one of the providers of this information below.

Eating well has much to do with staying healthy and adding very healthy chocolate to an already healthy diet sounds like a winning combination - it tastes great and is great for you!
