ORAC Score: What Is The ORAC Score For Acai Berries

Perhaps you already know what the ORAC score is.

I didn't until just the other night.

According to Wikipedia an ORAC or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity…

"Is a method of measuring antioxidant capacities of different foods. It was developed by the scientists at the National Institute on Aging in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Baltimore, Maryland. Correlation between the high antioxidant capacity of fruits and vegetables, and the positive impact of diets high in fruits and vegetables, is believed to play an important role in the Free-radical theory of aging."

With that said let's look at the top 10 fruit & vegetable ORAC scores.

* Cherry = 100
* Cranberry = 125
* Broccoli = 130
* Spinach = 150
* Green pepper = 160
* Red raspberry = 210
* Elderberry = 240
* Wild blueberry = 260
* Wild black raspberry = 340
* Acai berry (freeze dried) = 1026

It is important to note that higher numbers from the above list have greater values to our nutritional intake.

With that said one can easily see that the Acai berry is the clear leader of the pack. Unfortunately, finding such berries available on the open market may prove to be much more challenging than picking up a stock of broccoli or handful of cherries.

Do you even know what an Acai berry looks like? I didn't. Why should I? After all, they are not a standard part of the choices available at the majority of grocery stores, at least not in my area.

For the record they are tiny grape like berries with a large seed in the middle.
Now that we understand how valuable an Acai berry can be, wouldn't it be great to know where to get your own personal supply of this valuable fruit? Following is a list of several options and their ORAC value per fluid ounce.

Again, the higher the number is the more valuable the product will be for your own personal consumption.

* Himilayan Gogi = 400
* Tahitan Noni = 500
* Xango = 550
* MonaVie = 1,027
* Xocai "tm" = 5,270

The above comparisons were developed by Brunswick Laboratories the leader in antioxidant testing in nutritional products.

For the record, I visited the MonaVie site and found them reporting the same score for their ORAC rating as what is listed in the above information.

In closing, I hope that you understand the ORAC score much better than you did previously. Further, given the value for Acai berries according to the ORAC information and how Xocai "tm" is a clear leader in their industry it would seem a logical move to investigate more about this company and its value to your health.
